L45a is a former branch of the Vennbahn, which goes towards Germany via Bütgenbach and Büllingen. From Losheimergraben there is a direct connection to the Kyll cycle path via Gerolstein and Bitburg to Trier.
When the branch is completed, guests will have some charming new possibilities for discovering the border region around the Vennbahn. This is in fact part of a series of expansion projects on the southern part of the route, which will contribute to making the network of cycle paths on disused railway lines in the region denser.

Author’s recommendation
The lake at Bütgenbach is always worth a visit. There are some possibilities to stop in for some refreshment at the lake and in the village too.

Safety information
Beware of oncoming cyclists, walkers or other users on public roads and on the cycle path.
Starting point is the former train station of Weywertz. From there the Vennquerbahn runs westwards to Bütgenbach and there south of the lake, which always remains in sight. The next stations are Büllingen and Honsfeld before a longer passage with a slight incline through forest and meadow landscape. The highest point is reached approximately at the level of Losheimergraben and at the same time the transition to the Eifel-Ardennes cycle path.
