‘Best of Wandern’ – East Belgium test centre

Free rental of high-quality sport equipment

With the right equipment, experiencing fascinating landscapes in East Belgium is even more fun. In our test centre, you can obtain advice and test the newest outdoor equipment. This way, you get to experience possibilities you've never even thought about before – for example, by hiking with trekking poles or by renting a modern GPS device including tour software.

There are also high-tech hiking shoes, rain jackets and rucksacks ready for testing. For bad weather, there are weatherproof products such as trekking umbrellas and multi-function jackets on offer. There are child carriers for parents with infants... There's nothing stopping you from enjoying a relaxed walking holiday.

The whole range of products can be put through a series of thorough tests with no strings attached. This free service is not only available for those who are staying in the region on holiday, but also for interested people from the region. Please note: These products are not sold at the House for Tourism, but are available on the free market.

How it works

Those who want to test hiking material can pay us a visit at the High Fens House for Tourism - East Belgium in Malmedy. The products are presented in the test center section and can be rented for 24h. The rental is free but with a security deposit of 100€.

Exchange of know-how

This initiative is provided as part of 'Best of Wandern', a network that has been joined not only by European hiking regions, but also by representatives of leisure sport, including manufacturers, tour operators and the retail trade.

With this partnership, East Belgium is part of a network of reputable tourist regions such as the Ammergau Alps (Upper Bavaria), the Müllerthal region (Luxembourg), East Tyrol (Austria), the North Vosges nature park in Alsace (France), the Radstadt Tauern (Austria), the region of Leipzig, and the Danube Bergland (both Germany). All in all, the cooperation currently has 22 partners.

In all these regions, it's not only equipment that is provided; know-how is exchanged, too. Each 'Best of Wandern' region benefits from the combined know-how about quality measures from several countries – quality measures that are effective and make good sense.
