You set off at the station in Eupen, from where you can easily follow the signposts 'RaveL L48 Vennbahn'. The first few kilometres go through new housing settlements towards Kettenis. You go past the church in the centre of the village and later the smart-looking Schloss Thal. When you have crossed the railway line between Eupen and Raeren, still intact, a short uphill section takes you to the part of the village known as 'Am Busch'. From here on, you ride mainly on a quiet road between the edge of the forest and a green meadow landscape, going past a number of small farms. In Raeren you continue via Neudorf towards the old station grounds. The final 300m is slightly uphill
