The terrain then becomes relatively flat until you reach the "Kreuz im Venn" - Cross in the Fens, a place of pilgrimage where you can walk around.
"In 1890, a cross was erected in honour of Stephan Horrichem Prioris, the apostle of the High Fens. The cross was erected because of his willingness to help the oppressed people of the fens during the 30 Years' War. The 6-metre-high iron cross stands on a 12-metre-high rock. Legend has it that the devil tried to destroy the cross. In reality, the stone lost its balance due to volcanic activity."
The return to Küchelscheid and the Leykaul car park is via the German exclave "Ruitzhof".
