Description
The Nature centre « Haus Ternell » is located in the middle of the idyllic Hertogenwald, at the foot of the High Fens and close to the reservoir dam of the Weser. It offers guided walking tours for everyone in German, French and Dutch. During the school holidays, the nature center Haus Ternell offers nature camps.
A fen and woodland museum makes you discover many local animals and plants in their natural environment through dioramas and explains the evolution of the High Fens. (Entrance fee: 2€/adult, 1€/children older than 12, 1€/retired people). The explanations on the display panels are available in German, French, Dutch, and English. Additionally, visitors can watch a 20-minute film about the restoration of the High Fens.
The comfortable Café-restaurant and its terrace indulge their visitors with regional specialties, home-made cakes and Belgian beers. After an excursion through nature, it is the perfect site for rest and refreshment. A close-to-nature playground nearby is a main attraction for the children. In the Winter, Ternell is a starting point for many cross-country ski trails. A ski rental is present in situ.
