The West Flemish youth string orchestra JOWest, conducted by Dirk Lievens, is now presenting its final concert of the project week in St. Vith for the third time. This year, the orchestra will once again be supported by the string class of the Music Academy of the German-speaking Community.
For over 10 years, young enthusiastic musicians have been coming together every year in the form of a workshop during the carnival holidays in St. Vith to make music together. Under the direction of Dirk Lievens and other professional orchestral musicians, the string players develop an original concert programme. For the repertoire, JOWest likes to work with new music by composers from their region. After intensive preparation, the musicians then go on tour through Flanders. In recent years, they have played dozens of concerts throughout the country. JOWest is also regularly involved in socio-cultural projects. They won the Queen Mathilde Prize with their "Crossing Music" project.
