On the 1st Friday in August, the streets and lanes of this little town are almost beyond recognition.
Clothing, ceramics, games, books, antiques: private individuals and market traders set up stand after stand with a total length of more than 5 kilometres and offer their wares for sale, some more loudly than others. On this midsummer Friday, the chances are good for those who like rummaging. The region's largest flea market invites visitors to indulge in some bargain hunting.
The St. Vith flea market was held for the first time – on a much more modest scale – in 1997. Then it grew steadily over the years and developed into a really major attraction, reaching totals of 15,000 visitors and 1,240 exhibitors on its 20th anniversary in 2017.
