Description
A lake exerts an irresistible attraction. Like the Lake of Bütgenbach, where every summer becomes a holiday.
This morning, the north wind disperses the last wafts of mist still hanging over the lake. That means the weather will be fine today! From the Worriken leisure centre, we set off along the RAVeL route towards the reservoir. A 23 m deep, 140 m long and 11 million cubic metre water reservoir. On the other side of the lake, it's worth taking a walk along the well-maintained footpath, which sometimes leads away from the shore and is a perfect spot for an improvised picnic.
Enjoy the varied panorama: Small lake bays and side arms as well as mowed meadows that lie in the Holzwarche nature reserve, where typical alpine plants such as fennel and black knapweed thrive. When the blue sky is reflected in the lake, the landscape is bathed in a unique light. Moist spots and rivulets can be crossed on paved footbridges. Eighty years after the construction of the artificial lake, nature is demanding its share back.
