Municipality of Büllingen
A region with magnificent churches and chapels, meadows full of daffodils, beautiful forests for hiking and distant views across natural landscapes.
Büllingen is the highest municipality of Belgium. A region characterised by its rural surroundings and agriculture with a religious affinity, testified to by the many wayside crosses, churches and chapels with their rare architectural features. Those in search of an activity holiday can expect a great deal of variety. The crib exhibition “Ars Krippana” in Hergersberg is one of the most significant of its kind in Europe.
Right next door, you will find over 100 trains running around the tracks in the “Ars Technica”, one of Europe’s largest model railways. In Manderfeld there is an educational water trail with eight activity stations suitable for families. Or how about a scenic flight over the unique countryside of the Eifel and the Fens as the highlight of a wonderful stay?
Some 280 km of designated trails are available to hikers, riders and cyclists. The course of one part of the former Vennbahn railway network has been converted into a Pre-Ravel premium cycling trail. Nature has a great deal to offer here. For instance in the valley of the tributary Holzwarche near the village of Rocherath-Krinkelt where millions of daffodils form gigantic paintings of blossoms. Or at Weisser Stein, the second-highest point in Belgium (694 m above sea level) near Mürringen, in the wetland area of the Bockvenn. So many activities whet the appetite for traditional cuisine, which Büllingen restaurateurs are exceedingly adept at, for example in the form of outstanding game dishes.
